I realized recently that, despite having lived a good portion of my life as one, I have no idea how to draw weasels from imagination. To get better, I'm going to try and draw a weasel a day until I learn how to deal with their weird anatomy. It'll also give me a chance to experiment with some different rendering and coloring styles in the meantime :)
I chose as my first Weasel-A-Day this picture of weasels mating (from a photographic reference by Bob Fuller of his two amorous garden residents). It's one of the only pictures I've actually found on the internet of least weasels mating in particular; it's usually done in the female's burrow, so you need to set a special camera up beforehand to catch them in the act. Weasel courtship is remarkably intense and protracted for such a little animal, with copulations lasting up to three hours--that's some serious stamina!
