And in my twisted face
There's not the slightest trace
Of anything that even hints of kindness
And from my tortured shape
No comfort, no escape
I see, but deep within is utter blindness
Hopeless
As my dream dies
As the time flies
Love a lost illusion
Helpless
Unforgiven
Cold and driven
To this sad conclusion
No beauty could move me
No goodness improve me
No power on earth, if I can't love her
No passion could reach me
No lesson could teach me
How I could have loved her and make her love me too
If I can't love her, then who?
Long ago I should have seen
All the things I could have been
Careless and unthinking, I moved onward
No pain could be deeper
No life could be cheaper
No point anymore, if I can't love her
No spirit could win me
No hope left within me
Hope I could have loved her and that she'd set me free
But it's not to be
If I can't love her
Let the world be done with me.
-If I Can't Love Her from Beauty and the Beast (musical)
Some more Wings of Fire fan art, this time featuring Peril, one of the most (if not THE MOST) depressing characters in the whole series. I actually had this idea some time ago, and after rereading Wings of Fire in anticipation of the next book, I finally got inspired to sit down and draw this. To me this song is such a good fit for Peril singing about Clay, which makes it somehow even sadder than it already was. Originally I was planning to have her with her head raised, but it ended up looking more angry than sad. Then I planned to have it raining, with the raindrops turning to steam on her scales, but nixed that for multiple reasons. 1. This is closer to the scene in the musical. 2. Again, a storm seemed to convey more of a sense of anger, rather than sadness. And 3. That would have been an unbelievable pain in the ass to draw. I was also planning to add much more scale detail, but ended up liking the simplified design better. It looks much more like something that I could imagine being animated, which was the overall goal of this picture, since it's supposed to look like a screenshot.
