This work was hand-painted by a young man who has been effected by cancer; his entire family as well. In this, his third, alla prima work, he attempted to channel the ugly meanness of CANCER into his subject. While easily dismissed as the work of an amateur, this work USES the artist's lack of polish to bring to life the imagery of cancer.
The mountain symbolizes the seemingly impossible fight, with the distant trees providing the sense of the long road ahead. The lake, with its serene waters, shows clam in the midst of hardship, even while surrounded by harsh winter. The pink hue of the light is symbolic of a new dawn in life, be it the dawning of a new understanding, or of eternity. The greenery of the cherry tree is a sign of hope.
