This picture was drawn for a vegetarian contest way back when...but I'm proud of how it turned out. Someone even asked me once if they could get a tattoo styled after this design, rofl! Anyways, just a simple message promoting vegetarianism and animal rights.^^

If one cares about animals he/she should think about going vegan, not vegetarian, as enslaving, exploiting, torturing, and/or killing animals for eggs, milk, leather, fur, experimentation, or entertainment is just as wrong as doing the same for meat. Eating meat is not really any worse than any other form of animal exploitation. Respecting animals means being vegan! Other than the misconception of vegetarianism (as in a non-vegan lifestyle not involving meat-eating) being good for animals, I love the pic and concept! The animals look adorable, especially the cow! ^.^
This was done before I went vegan, although I did use the word "veggie" so it could work for either or. I was a vegetarian for about 10 and a half years prior to going vegan, sadly I was in the dark and ignorant about much of the dairy industry for a long time. I support vegetarianism as a STEP towards veganism, but agree that the ultimate fiorm of non violence & compassion for animals is vegan.
i do have to ask then about your thoughts on me taking unfertilized eggs from my extremely pampered pet hen to use in my baking. or the local goat dairy where i get my milk, where should i want to, i can go down and visit the animals, which are kept very happily on a big amount of acreage? (I'm just fond of getting different vegans perspectives on that sort of thing. i'm a pescatarian myself. and even then only occasionally. mostly vegetarian.)
Love the picture, though, +fav!

I believe that stealing from someone "pampered" is still stealing. Chickens have been bred to lay FAR more eggs than they would naturally and this is devastating to a chicken's body as it depletes her body of important nutrients, so chickens will often eat their own eggs in order to replenish these nutrients. By taking her eggs from her you are preventing this from being possible. Also it's been shown that stealing chickens' eggs causes chickens much emotional stress. And if you got her from a hatchery then her purchase caused the death of a male chick. At the hatchery, where chickens are hatched to be sold to be exploited for their eggs, all males are killed as they can never lay eggs and are thus considered waste. For every female chick sent off to be used for her menstrual waste a male is killed either by live grinding, gassing, suffocation in a plastic bag, or simply being discarded in bins to die slowly.
Using goats for their milk also means treating goats as things for human use. It means treating a goat as property, and taking what isn't yours. Goats, like all mammals, produce milk for their children. In order for goats and cows to produce milk they are first made pregnant (they have no say in this). This is usually done via artificial insemination. In the case of cows milk, the calves are taken from their mothers shortly after birth and the females face the same exploitation as their mothers, and the males are confined for a few weeks to be killed for veal. In the case of goats the females are still taken to face the same fate as their mothers and the males are either killed and discarded or kept for their flesh.
Treating animals as property for human use is never okay, regardless of how they are treated while being exploited. Basically it's how you probably feel about human use - that owning humans as slaves is never okay, no matter how "humanely" they are used. At least I'm assuming this is the case? And indeed many people argued that owning and using humans was okay so long as they weren't beaten "unnecessarily" and were given good food, shelter, and care. From the vegan perspective, arguing for "humane" use of non-human animals makes just as little sense. All animals, human or non-human value their lives and their freedoms. No one wants to be treated as property or as a resource (except in the case of consensual BDSM but we both know that's a totally different subject, lol).
