Character "challenge" in the new year
Journal with the details: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/7974808/
I feel like the comic here explains what I mean pretty well. The journal has more details though. Here, I will elaborate only a little bit.
It feels like forever since I have drawn Bell in a meaningful way. In fact, can you even tell me three facts about his personality looking through my entire gallery? I feel like that would be tough to manage. Bell is an extreme example, but each character that I have had for years and years feels hollow for the amount of time I should have spent on them. I have fallen into a rut where I draw the same few things about them constantly. So starting on the new year I will be working on each character one at a time. One week each. For me to give them back a voice.
And I want others to join me with their own characters. Maybe you don't have the same problem I do. But I'm certain there are a few details you have thought up but have never shown yet. Or maybe you just want to spend some time with a character that's new or dear to you. Both are good reasons. I only have two rules with this "challenge" if it can be called that. Pick a character and a week to just draw them, and you cannot ever draw the same thing twice in the week (including anything you have done in the past before this started).
Share it if you want. Post a thing and see if you can get someone else to develop their characters a little bit more too. Or not. Either way I will be working on my own stuff anyways :)

VIOLA. >:V
Pretty shork bab needs love.
I don't think Zae'd need working since he's you.
Kat, make specific fears and give stories as to why they're spooped of 'em.
Jade, why does she get so annoyed? Is she just extremely irritable? Did something happen one day to make her snap?
And Bell. Since he's (I'm assuming you were going for saying) "2 dimensional". Think of things you like or find cool, don't be afraid to delve into a little edge.
Edge can be good in some areas if used right.
This is coming from someone who made their first character 7 years ago. And is still editing, adding and removing things from her.
She went from pony to horse to dragon to having two different versions, horse and dragon.
So I know a few things about trying to make characters or add to them eheheh. xwx;

I actually love your comment. It really hammers home why I need to do this (I mean no offence).
Viola gets drawn more than anyone else. She shouldn't be first unless I wanted to drum up a lot more attention towards this thing. Actually... I will still think on that just for that reason haha. But dang does she get a lot of artwork these days.
Jade and Kat's personalities stem from other things. It's roughly explained in their refs, but Jade is afraid of falling in love and it not being real because she is a succubus. So she instead pushes people away.
Kat was a slave. Ran away, found a new home, but she had lived a mostly forgotten existence for years. Her fears is just how that developed now that she is safe.
And Bell... Bell is simply a flat character right now. /I/ know who he is and everything. But I so rarely draw him nothing is known publicly. So for the purpose of this challenge it's like he is a brand new character almost. Trust me, I have them all developed and I plan on showing who they are and all. Heck, Bell, Kat, and Jade are all over 6 years old each. And they certainly haven't been forgotten for that time <3
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I appreciate the suggestions. But this is not a challenge to DEVELOP them exactly. Just to show what I have already developed and never have drawn :3
And Zae is totally getting a week. You think I ever talk about myself? There is a lot I want to say and show as well.

Pretty much, yeah. If not their backstory then just explain their personality better.
And what do you mean you would love to see that? I will be starting this on the 1st :D
You aren't the only one to get it a little off in terms of what this is for. I worry that I may have explained it poorly haha.

If you're having problems with "thinking about characters, and their specific personality"
I try to think of putting myself in their shoes. Even they are a fictional character, you treat them as someone you actually know, after all its created in your unique image.
It's tough to "Try and develop" more to make the exact character you want. It's been the same character you created to begin with.
If you know that you can change your character, do it. There's nothing to hold back.
It's not going to harm the character because you're trying out new things, and you're the one to decide.
If you feel like you are neglecting some of your characters think why you are, and that can be a first step.
If you compare Viola and Bell to a fishing contest. who's going to win?
Obviously Viola because she can just jump right in and grab the fish.
Edited: Or you can compare how annoyed jade gets when Bell runs around because his bell jingles.
Combining character in one picture can create a stronger development.

I think people have my specific problem backwards...
I know all about my characters. I just have not shown it for some reason or another, causing their personalities to seem different than it actually is.
And combining characters in the same image would kinda defeat the "only one character" rule, but yeah, that does make for better development overall. Probably one that's worth breaking if you get a stronger character for it haha
Fun fact: Did you know that Bell keeps Jade in check? He has a low tolerence for her being rude to everyone. He might even understand somewhat why she does that. Dude's smart.
