I figured I'd share a WIP shot of the test stomach that I've been working on for a few weeks.
This is mostly just a test project to figure out some methods for future projects, but I do plan to rig and animate it before moving on.
I am currently retopoing the sculpt and I've only got the top half finished so... enjoy this render.

Cool! I have Blender, but I haven't used it much at all. So far this has been a huge learning experience, and probably the most difficult thing I've modeled, so I'm not sure I'm even doing it the most efficient way. ^^' It's a complicated shape that doesn't easily allow for clean topology, so when I finally rig and animate it will be when I find out if I've done it right or not. I'll probably post more updates sometime soon!
I hope to model one of these some day too. ROFL. This looks really good. It's almost as if you chose the angle to show it off as best as you could in the screenshot. The most difficult thing you have modeled? Wow. I never would have thought it would be that challenging to model a stomach.
Then again I am still learning. Though I figure you just extrude from the mouth and create a bean shape or something of the sorts. May I ask how you achieved the ridges/folds look?
Can't wait to see the update. =) Hope everything works out for ya.

Haha that's kind of the point. Everything you do should be tailored to the camera angle you intend to use. That way you don't waste effort off screen on something that will never even be seen.
The only reason I would connect it to the character is to do an uncut shot. And I would probably try to cheat that somehow so it didn't need to be connected. It's just easier as its own rig.
This is a sculpt that I did in Zbrush that I am re-topoing in Modo, so that's all geo. I may try to achieve the ridges with maps in another test, but for how I want to rig and animate it, I'll need to be able to see each one, so I bit the bullet to model them.
Thanks! :D
