As a growing artist myself, I can really appreciate this. It's a great reminder too, as I just recently drug myself out a similar line of thought that "maybe I'm not cut out for this"! After months of moping and dealing with life troubles I'm finally ready to start doing what I love most again. X3

Kinda cool to find this after just putting up my first attempt at writing a fetishy thing. :D

I am not an artist, but at one point I had tried to do some art by drawing simple skeletons over some wolves in photos and studying them in different poses. You see, I am a software developer by trade, where it is common to learn by analyzing the works of others and building on top of them when possible. This was immediately shot down when someone told me I should be ashamed for tracing photos, that isn't how they learned anatomy and that even if I didn't intend on distributing it, the idea was both morally and ethically wrong. I know now I probably shouldn't have listened, but then I was looking for any excuse to hate myself, so I stopped trying at that point, telling myself that I'll never be able to learn like a normal artist. Maybe someday I'll try picking it up again, but right now I got enough on my plate with other projects (including a story or two that I've only sketched out so far).

Moral of this story (I'll probably be yelled at for this): Use whatever methods you need to improve your art, don't let others tell you that your way is right or wrong. If you do trace, be open about how you learned, list your inspirations, and don't distribute the results. I think tracing can be useful as a tool to study how to make your art more realistic, as well as for learning the techniques of artists you admire. Using the results in a piece of art you intend to post online or otherwise distribute can be a crime depending on the country you're in, but just creating it in order to learn is not.

oh god no tracing is absolutely valuable to every young artist so long as its not sold, done for commission or claimed as your own
just be sure that its done on real people an animals and not someone elses stylized art [as our anatomy is usually wrong!]

This is a very strong and uplifting message for all those artists struggling to get business and love their art. You just gotta keep drawing and do the things that you like. You will eventually have a fanbase ahead. <3

The most difficult part by be getting a fan base
Fan bases will come as they find you, just be friendly and open to them, slowly people will get interest in your art and characters.
Before one realize, there will be a fan base supporting you. :3

So... what do you do after that?
I've been posting consistently here on 4 years and on DeviantArt for 6 and a half and it still seems like I don't have much of a "fanbase" and I haven't been getting any commissions this time I opened.

honestly i'd get opinions from my watchers on what they would suggest, be it what they would commission from you or otherwise.
personally, your work is fab but its a little out of my price range at this moment in time <3 keep up the amazing work though

I can suggest YCH's though n such to see if you can get a bit more attention of those looking to buy things
