The dude really looks different in color. In the BW picture, I thought he was a real anthro.

Well, he could be an anthro more or less. While the exposed skin around his eyes may suggest that its a mask he's wearing along with the exposed arms and legs, his tail seems to wag around in one of his victory poses, and his muzzle moves around and makes different expressions when he's in an idle position, when he gets hit, when he's performing an attack, or when he's howling (another one of his victory poses).
