This one's a little closer to home. The character is the mascot of the largest bakery in Mexico, Bimbo. I'm aware the word has a different connotation in english slang, but that really is the name of the brand. I belive they sell their products on the US too, but don't know to what extent.

Remeber the joke on Zombieland about how Twinkies are called in spanish? Bimbo is the one who produces the 'Submarinos', through their Marinela brand.
