Saturday the 28th of March 2009 was the day of the very first real life meet up of all three contributors to the Crossed Paths RP. I had previously met both Praddy and Arrin, but seperately, and those two had never met each other face to face.
A mere five days previous* I was able to finally complete this picture that I've been working on for several years, especially if you count the sketches of the very first incarnations, and print out two copies on high quality paper in order to present it to my co-authors on the day of our epic meet up.
And lo, the meet up was truely epic and involved ice cream (frozen yogurt) for lunch and legendary quantities of sushi for dinner.
---
The black-footed ferret is Jozra, played by me.
The seated otter is Soquan, played by Arrin.
The fox with the chain is Holstadt, played by Praddy.
Materials used: bristol board, mechanical pencil, cheap-o non-toxic cake watercolors, Prisma watercolor pencils, Prisma colored pencils, gold and silver gel pens, and microns.
I was hoping to avoid doing any outlining because I'm experimenting on getting away from that. I found I did need to do some outlining on the main figures but it works for me and is something I should try again. (I may need new pens for it, though. My microns kept crapping out now and again. They're all kinda old.)
The gold and silver actually scanned much better than I had hoped for. If I had planned better I should have flattened the whole thing good and hard before I even tried scanning. I had to come up with some solutions on the fly to get the water warped edges to lay flat.
I didn't use any masking in this since I didn't have any. At least not while I was doing the painting part. I do now, though, along with a new set of watercolors with a wider color selection (which I really needed especially when my brown suddenly turned into green). I can't wait to try them out!
*This doesn't sound as down to the wire as it really was. I finished drawing it Monday night, fought with my printer Tuesday evening to get it just right, spent all day Wednsday in San Francisco hanging out and watching Wicked, spent all day Thursday traveling to Riverside, and all day Friday hanging out with *arrin and ~mitya and poking faults.
