Well, it happened while me and my friend were hiking and looking for snakes. We wanted to try near a famous area called the Robinson Woods Indian Burial Ground. We were following a path in the mid-afternoon and heard strange drums. We assumed it was kids playing loud music or something, but stopped to figure out where it was coming from. After we stopped moving, there was a final "booom" of the drums... since there was no longer anything to hear, we continued walking. As soon as we're walking, the drums start up. It was a steady beat, like a shamanic ritual "boomboom boom, boomboom boom". So we stopped to listen, and it stopped with a final loud beat once again. Strangely, we were walking away from where it was coming from, and it sounded too far for anyone to be able to see us. As we moved away though, it seemed to almost grow in volume, until when we left that trail through the trees and hit a field. Suddenly, it stopped. We still figured it was just kids playing music, even though we had a creeped out feeling. We had excellent luck catching snakes that day, and if I remember right it was actually our first time catching them in the city (and not in a state park while camping). Later, we did some research about the area and found that other people hear drumming there as well! We had known there was some history of the area being haunted, but didn't know about the drums until after experiencing them. There is some info on this site I found http://www.prairieghosts.com/robin.html.

Well, I know its not an animal... but its true that it could be a hoax of some sort. It didn't really sound electronic, we mostly assumed it was because we were trying to rationalize it. It very well could have been pranksters with a drum and binoculars, but it makes a neat story.
