It was a bright fall day, and TJ was strolling through the park, his plush doggie, JD safely stowed in his rucksack. The gentle clicking of his crutches was barely audible over the fall breeze that blew the leaves around the trail that snaked between the rolling hills.
Feeling a bit tired, TJ sat down on one of the many benches scattered throughout the park, fishing JD from his pack. "It's a beautiful day, isn't JD?" TJ said in a soft tone. He knew he was a bit old for having a stuffed animal, especially one that was taken almost everywhere. TJ didn't care though, he loved JD and was calmed by him when he was overly nervous. TJ and JD sat there, watching the 20-somethings toss frisbys for their dogs, and the random jogger trot on by.
TJ could hear the kids playing on the playground in the far corner of the park. He was never excluded from their play, not intentionally at least, but he couldn't run like the other kids, so he spent most of his time sitting on a bench watching--he prefered the solitude of the "grown-up area" of the park because of this. The late afternoon shadows grew long, and TJ's tummy was rumbling, so he stashed JD again, after hugging him, and slowly made his way to the bus stop. It was just a short trip home to a warm house and a hot bowl of soup.
