Some fun facts about Kali and her species:
Shadowvale Flygons (and potentially more Flygons than that, though this is my personal interpretation) are actually more closely related anatomically to Bugs than reptiles. This reveals itself in lore by Flygons being a part of the Bug egg group. As such, there are a number of her physical features that require some further explanation.
Flygons typically prefer to eat meat, and Sandshrews, which share their most common ranges, are typically their favorite meals. They also tend to like sweet foods.
A Flygon's tongue is actually the analog of a wasp's proboscis. In Kali's case, it can extend out over 3 feet from her mouth, and is actually hollow at the tip. It is in particular useful for grasping and holding prey, and also allows her to breathe when prey is being swallowed, similar to the hole that a snake's tongue fits into. It can also be used as a straw to drink water with.
A Flygon's tail is anatomically a bug abdomen. Its tailfan is composed of three cerci, and each segment is an individual insect abdomen segment. Insects typically have 11 abdominal segments, although the last one is often greatly reduced. A Flygon is no different in this respect. Its last 9 segments compose the tail, 8 of which are distinctly visible with the final one mostly melded into the tailfan. The front two abdominal segments are fused into the thorax to make up a Flygon's belly. Also because of this analog, both a Flygon's anus and its reproductive organs are located not on its bottom but rather on the tip of the tail, typically hidden under the tailfan. (Flygons would still sit on their bottom, made up of their thighs and belly)
A Flygon's gut is made up of three parts. Its foregut, or crop, is located within the thorax just under the chest. The crop is a deadly region, filled with flesh-eating methanogen archaea used in predigestion. They are especially good at breaking down keratin, like what comprises a Sandshrew's outer shell. They also expel a noxious, foul-smelling gas, which fills the crop. This gas is what allows a Flygon to use Dragonbreath, and as the gas is methane-rich, it can also be ignited to cause a Flamethrower. However, Flygon saliva is highly fire-suppressing and can be used as a burn heal salve, and coupled with the anoxic environment of the crop, a flamethrower can really only be created by gas fully exhaled from the Flygon's mouth. Flygon dragonbreath is also neurotoxic, causing muscle spasms and, in high enough doses, temporary paralysis. It is also anoxic. Prey that is trapped in the crop will undergo a triple threat, any one of which could cause its death: suffocation, organ failure, and grievous wounds. However, prey that is large enough will have a hard time fitting in the crop. It can thus be bypassed when swallowing.
The midgut, or stomach, is located in the Flygon's belly. It, and the Flygon's esophagus, can expand significantly, allowing a Flygon to be able to easily swallow prey up to 40% of its body mass (which in Kali's case is about 600lbs). Unlike the crop, however, the stomach is far weaker in terms of the time it takes to kill its prey, if said prey bypasses the crop. Prey can typically last a day or so before irreversible damage from digestive fluids and reduced oxygen cause their body to shut down, and it can often take a week or two, depending on the size of the prey, to be fully digested. Of course, prey that undergoes predigestion in the crop can digest considerably faster in the stomach. The hindgut, or intestine, is then located in the Flygon's tail, and it can thus bloat out as digested prey is slowly absorbed into the rest of the Flygon's body.
Flygon antennae are multiple sensory organs. They are somewhat flexible and significantly aid in detection of scents. Plus, a Flygon's ears are located on the underside of the antennae and use the antennae as resonant chambers to enhance their hearing.
Flygons can communicate in multiple ways. Their longest-reaching form of communication is actually the beating of their wings. By changing the frequency and pattern of flapping, Flygons can create a form of music which can communicate information to others a long way away. They can make numerous vocal articulations as well, typically screeches, chirps, croaks, hisses, but with practice they are able to emulate many human vocal sounds, to the point where they can carry on conversations with humans if trained to do so.
Flygon eyes are rather complex. They have natural 'glasses' which both protect their inner eyes from sand and debris, but also redirect the angles of light entering them. In this way, Flygon peripheral vision can see nearly everywhere at once... it is very hard to sneak up on a Flygon. Flygons have a small region of binocular vision straight ahead of them, which their eyes are set up to focus on typically, but which requires them to turn their head to face whatever they want to look at clearly.
Kali herself is quite curious and friendly, wanting to meet and learn more about new creatures rather than just make snap decisions. She loves to explore new places. That said, Flygons, as creatures of the desert, are always on the lookout for their next meal because they never know just when they will find it. Kali does tend to be quite hungry and it isn't difficult for her to decide that you are her food.
