I always figured it was because fall harvest stuff and if Canada had to wait till November for theirs with the weather and likelyhood of snow...we wouldn't be all that grateful. So I figured we do it in October when the weather and trees still look pretty. XD
But as someone who immigrated from the states, it does feel a bit forced when it comes to black Friday since at least in the states you get the long weekend and Thanksgiving is kind of the pre-cursor "Now GO" to launching the christmas season. Where as in Canada its just this awkward trundle leading up to it. Inversely, I noticed Canada is more about boxing day where as in the states it never really picked up as much steam. XD

Oh i guess this is the reason
Thanksgiving in Canada actually goes back to 1578 in Newfoundland, when explorer Martin Frobisher held a ceremony of gratitude for surviving the journey from Europe. Americans, led by the Puritans and the Mayflower, didn't begin their annual tradition until 1621 – 43 years later.
Though the crop thing would make sense for Canada since yeah November is typically a lot harsher then October.
Lol yeah black Friday is odd here it always hear like those horror stories in the states of people getting trampled or in fights and shit that would be scary. I live in a small city though I don't know if Edmonton would be bad I can't imagine the mall on black Friday October. O.o it's busy just on normal summer days .
I didn't know that boxing day wasn't big the states though I assumed it would be to.
