Foxystallion is a rancher and he happens to be the best friends of the little brown bats on his property! because Foxy likes to spend his time out of doors (and sometimes in his own birthday-suit!) he used to get swarmed by mosquitoes and other pests, but once the little brown bats discovered that the air around Foxy is a veritable smorgasbord of insect delights the mosquito problem was no more.
now whenever Foxy goes outside during the evening or at night he is followed by his own air squadron of bats - taking a literal BITE out of the mosquito population!

can you see something special about the composition of this piece? while i may not have used the Golden Ratio, i tried my damndest to make this look like a traditional composition just for using one very special shape:
the triangle.
in traditional western Renaissance and some very late Medieval artwork the composition of many, many religious pieces uses either the Golden Ratio, the Golden Rectangle, the Golden Square, or the Golden Triangle. however, the triangle itself was seen as a very special and symbolic shape because it had three sides, and in Christianity the Godhead is viewed as being three separate-yet-same entities so it was used the most often.
when Foxy first approached me about this piece he mentioned how much like a traditional Renaissance painting the title of this piece sounded like, and so i decided i wanted to try and use the triangle as the basis of the composition of this piece. there are numerous triangles in the background from the mountains, the bats themselves form a triangle around Foxy, and Foxy himself even forms a rudimentary triangle with his face, neck, arms, and hands!
the triangle is a special shape because it is so stable without being boring. a painting composed entirely of rectangles is boring - and a circular composition is very difficult to achieve because we naturally work on a rectangular surface. however, a composition comprised of triangles keeps the eyes moving around the piece, but also give it a definite base so that your eyes don't "fall off" of the piece.
that's my little art-rant for the day! because knowledge is power!!!

I love it! Thank you very much!
You were the exact right artist to do this piece - it has precisely the Renaissance religious painting feel to it that I wanted!! And thank you for the fascinating art history, too!
It was a real bonus to be able to watch you create it on Ustream - thanks again!
