"Hello? Any monsters out there?" Zee-Zee was feeling brave, particularly brave, as he rode through the darkened woods on Merly Bear's back. At least, Merly thought so. The little squirrel was about three years younger than her, and she wasn't sure if he'd play with her this late. But someone had to help her on the hunt, or she'd have to go alone again. The monster was sneaky, she'd only seen shadowy glimpses of it as it moved through the woods.
"Mr. Monsterrrr? Where are yoooouuu?" Merly called, shuffling slightly to make sure Zee-Zee was still clinging to her back. The old towel they had used as a saddle was actually causing him to slip, but what noble steed doesn't have a saddle?
They continued to walk, crickets chirping in the cool night, light from the flashlight bouncing off of branches and glinting off the soup pot Zee-Zee used as a helmet. A rustle in the distance, the two froze, Zee-Zee moving the light towards the sound. A dark shape, too dark, black. An arm? Zee-Zee let out a squeak and nearly dropped the light as the figure disappeared from the pool of light.
"Zee-Zee! Merly! Zee-Zeeee!" Called a voice. Zed, or was it Zena? Merly often got names confused. The mommy squirrel. They had to go back. She turned and moved back towards the sound of the voice. The monster hunt could wait another night.
Here we go! Sorry it took so long! I may have gone a little overboard. Here we have Merly Bear and
Zee-Zee going on a late night monster hunt!
