Another illustration based on one of
swiftcutter's designs (see here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/19641195 ). Really cute and appealing stuff and I wanted to get some practice in with the new markers I'd recently purchased. I'm probably going to be drawing this character again... this turned out really nice.
As much as I like digital artwork there's something about the imperfections that comes with using real media that I'm drawn to.

It's funny how perfection is the thing to strive for when it's hard, but as soon as tech makes it easy we want the imperfections back again. Digital was supposed to be the big thing for music creation too, eliminating noise and sound degradation, and now there are digital plug-ins for adding intentional noise and signal degradation to emulate old analog equipment in software. Similar with hand-crafted furniture having desirable character. We're a contrary species.
What sort of markers?

I think that working with real media also has the virtue of forcing people to be creative with the tool limitations. When everyone has access to the same filters in Photoshop it's real easy for the resulting images to have a sameness in appearance because most people use the default settings for the various filters, tools, and effects you can apply. But with real media there are a multitude of techniques to achieve different appearances that are developed through creative use of the tools at hand and modified further with skill and practice in their employment. I love that sort of thing and I really value those artists who go above and beyond in their exploration of the full use of the tools they have whether it's digital or traditional.
The markers I've been getting into have been Copic Sketch. I've known about them forever but I never knew about the manner in which they blend together to produce such interesting gradients. Pretty awesome!
(sorry for the long delay in responding).
