This is an old song, released on The Assembly EP, but I never actually uploaded it. I have always found this to be one of the more beautiful and emotional pieces I have written, one of the few songs I've written where don't I come back to months or years later and hear huge gaping holes in the songwriting. I seem to recall not wanting to upload it before because I wanted to have it be a surprise on the record, but now that it's been long out, I figured I'd stick it up for prosperity
The title is Russian, as the song is written and composed by the band's Russian-Welsh keyboard player Jake Shchavelsky. It translates as, approximately "My heart begins to bleed" and is about how Jake wouldn't be able to return to his homeland of Russia and see his family due to it's anti-gay laws etc. In time it has come to be a much broader meaning piece, about fear and loneliness, though also the desire to struggle onwards in spite of everything almost just to see if you can. Somewhat appropriate for modern times, no matter how you slice whichever pie your slicing.
