Yeah, seems a bit stupid to call it Ash-Greninja in the games, where Ash doesn't exist (not even Red-Greninja would work, since he doesn't own one).

ummm actually ^^; the ot of the greninja is from 'ash' which confuses continuity and canon ALOT

the personal feelings i have for ash greninja in the anime (citation i have not watched the x y z anime so everything here comes with a grain of salt) it confuses me how it works it comes from a close bond between ash and greninja unlocking true power within greninja but this implies ash and greninjas bond is more so than ash and pikachu (i dont see any ash pikachu after all) tho the VERY base concept i do like since it gave ash a dynamic to oppose mega evolution with power drawn from bond enhanced by an outside source against power drawn from purely and soley the bond between trainer and pokemon

sorry for rambling there but ash greninja is quite the topic in of itself ^^;

Yeah, all I can think with it overall is "WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST MAKE A MEGA GRENINJA INSTEAD?". >_<

well it wouldnt work with the whole ash being different thing i mean he has a rival who uses mega evolutions and clearly is very very skilled with them and has vast knowledge of them and i can only presume alot of other trainers hes faced have megas on hand thus with everyone using megas ash would need a new dynamic

least its not true fusion like people were speculating back in the early days of sun moon new :D (tho in hindsight maybe ashes special thing should have been more akin to z moves would have overall worked better i think at least)

Eh, I think it would've been a lot cooler than some pointless unique thing (did Ash even have a Mega Evolution in the entire X & Y series? What a waste!).

well as said i get the feeling it was to diversify ash from the rest of his rivals (tho going into kalos he actually only had i think ONE pokemon capable of mega evolution which is charizard who i might add he coincidentally got back permanently just at the end of unova... possible signs of a scrapped plan maybe? hard to tell)

I count: Charizard, Heracross, Glalie and Sceptile. He'd have had Pidgeot too if he hadn't released the damn thing.
Eh. Just reeks of them having to give pointless special crap to a terrible character in a subpar anime. Not that they'd ever let it mean anything, because he'll inevitably drop all his interesting Pokemon, and will never win a league. This is why I avoid the Pokemon anime at all costs. >_<
