A Brand New You
By Whitestripe
Calvech cracked his knuckles as he faced down his two opponents. On his left, stood Kopa, the golden lion holding a spear of light, a serious look of concentration on his muzzle. On his right, stood Chim, the dragonwolf hybrid, in one paw a ball of flame crackled, in his other, a swirling mist of frost and ice.
“You know Cal, you might be just about indestructible, but that really isn’t going to help you much if I freeze ya solid.” Chim said, a playful smirk on his muzzle, his whole body tensed and ready to spring at a moment’s notice.
The horse snorted, rolling his eyes. “Please, you pipsqueaks think you can beat me? Maybe in your dreams.”
In the back of the horse’s mind, a soft voice spoke up. “My host, might we crush them, I would very much enjoy putting these two errant beasts in their place.” A wispy voice wafted through the horse’s mind. “I do not enjoy being disrespected.”
“You really don’t enjoy anyone not bowing down and worshipping the ground we walk on Neith.” Calvech pointed out mentally, at the same moment, stepping to the side as Kopa sprung forward, his spear of light attempting to plant itself within the violet horse’s chest, only to be met with empty air.
The voice almost seemed to huff in annoyance. “That is not true my host, I simply enjoy seeing you fleshy beings on your knees.” The voice paused, almost as though the speaker was tilting his head. “You may wish to dodge, the hybrid before you is an illusion, he’s coming from below my host.”
The horse sprung into the air, as two paws burst out of the ground, a tendril of purple liquid whipped out of the horse’s back and thrusting down into the ground, coming out a moment later and hauling a hybrid in its sticky embrace. “You know Chim, that was sneaky, I’m impressed, I thought you’d have just tried to charge me.” Calvech complimented before Neith chucked the hybrid like a baseball at the lion.
Kopa’s eyes widened as he saw his friend flying at him. “Oh crap baskets.” He muttered before the air was knocked from his lungs, the two being sent sprawling on the grass, Calvech high fiving the liquid like tendril that was extending out of his back. “Looks like I win you two.” The horse told them playfully.
“Not yet it isn’t….We’re gonna be-”
Kopa was cut off as Whitestripe stepped over to Calvech and patted his shoulder. “No, it is over Kopa, Chim, you underestimated him, and you lost. If he wanted to do something to both of you, he could have. All of your magic’s have grown enough that transforming a downed opponent can happen almost instantly.” The tiger shook his head with a sigh. “Frankly you two, I’m almost disappointed, I thought you had learned better under us.” He gave a shrug, as though it didn’t matter. “That’s all for your session you three, you have the rest of the day off, see if you can learn from today.”
The dean turned and started off, whistling, while fighting to keep the smirk off his muzzle. This ought to get the three closer together, if only from the rivalry that they shared. But hey, beggars couldn’t be choosers.
A frown briefly formed on his muzzle, something was coming, something far worse than what they’d faced before, but hell if he could get a bead on what exactly it was. But he’d be damned if he didn’t prepare each one of his students for it to the best of his abilities.
They could be free to hate his guts afterwards.
Calvech walked over to his fallen friends and offered a hoof to the pair, lifting them to their paws. “You two alright? We didn’t wanna hurt ya too much.” He questioned.
“Naw, we’re fine, Whitestripe pounds us way harder when it comes to our group session.” Chim said, brushing himself off.
Kopa nodded his head in agreement, eyeing the tendril of violet goop that almost seemed to be watching them. “You know Cal, you never really did tell us what that is, or how you got it.” He said, reaching out a finger to poke it.
“I have a name, lion, you two may refer to me as Neith. I am a symbiote, I and Calvech bonded when he was young, it is how he acquired the form you see before him, as he is my host, I wished to make him better than what he used to be.” The airy voice of the symbiote seemed to waft through the air around the anthro horse. “I think he makes a far better horse than he ever did look as a human.”
Both boy’s eyebrows shot up at that. Humans were rare in this day and age. Perhaps one for every thousand anthros. To hear that their friend had once been human was…..surprising to say the least. “You. Explain. Now.” Chim spoke firmly, sitting down in the grass. Kopa flopping down beside him.
Calvech groaned, of course Neith had to go and brag, and there was no way Chim and Kopa were going to leave him alone until they had dug up every little detail about his life. “Fine, fine, I’ll tell you the story, but no interruptions, got it?” Calvech said firmly as he sat down before the two. “It all started when I was about twelve years old.”
Calvech ran as fast as his little legs could carry him, the young, sickly boy had just wanted to go out to the park to relax with a nice book. That plan had ended up shredded though when a few of the kids from school had noticed the boy and had decided to play ‘poke the human.’ What followed was the boy losing his temper and punching the fox in the nose and put him in the situation of now running for his life, the three angry fur’s hot on his heels.
“When I get my paws on you brat, I’m gonna shred you, you hear me?” Dennis, the fox, yelled out as he watched the boy scamper into the woods, snarling softly as he waved for his friends to follow him. How dare that little human think he could lay a hand on him? Humans were all but extinct, Cal should have known his place, doing what they wanted him to. Besides, it was only going to take another century before humans were just history material, in books and museum exhibits. Their time was up.
Cal whimpered as those words reached his ear, spurring another burst of speed from his frail body, he needed to get away, if he didn’t, he had no illusions about what Dennis and his friends would do to him. The brown-haired youth’s chest burned as he ducked under a tree branch, moving deeper and deeper into the woods. He just needed to find a spot to hide. If he could just do that, then he’d b-
The boy let out a yelp as his foot hit something and he went head over heels, hitting the ground with a heavy thunk, a whimper of pain escaping from him. “Owie…..” He muttered, his eyes slowly opening to look at what he’d tripped over, his head tilting to the side in surprise. It was….an egg? A large, purple egg sat in the dirt, speckles of red dotting the shell, and... where those horns, why the hell did an egg have a pair of little horns on top of it.
“No….no, do not touch it, you’ve seen how many horror movies Cal? You know where this is going, you touch that, and some foul, evil space thing is going to eat you. Just get up, and start running.” The human muttered under his breath as he slowly climbed to his feet, glaring down at the egg. And yet….wasn’t he being just a little paranoid? Those movies weren’t real…..but magic was, and he’d seen a few tricks being performed, of living fur’s being transformed into simple, everyday objects.
“You wish for strength, power, a body that will not fail you right?” A quiet, airy voice spoke softly from around him. “Pick up the egg child, and I can-”
“No, hell no, you really think I’m going to fall for that trick?” Cal said, pointing an accusatory finger at the little egg on the ground. “You have horns for god’s sake, how does that not scream evil monster? Seriously, you really need to work on your approach on this.”
The presence in the egg seemed to pause, flabbergasted. He had encountered many hosts over his time, many of them were….for lack of a better word….idiots. One’s he’d easily conquered and wiped away. He had no use for such weakness, he was a far better mind controlling their little bodies. “I….see. So….what if I said that I was not evil?” The voice spoke up slowly. “Then would you pi-”
“No” Calvech growled, crossing his arms as he walked over and kicked the egg lightly, causing it to wobble. “Because you don’t really mean it, you seem to need consent, otherwise you’d have just done whatever you would have done when I kicked you and made contact.”
Neith let out a roar of laughter. “Well, well, it seems I have been looking for my hosts in the wrong place.” Slowly that laugh died down, and Cal could feel like...something was focusing all of its attention upon him. “Tell me little human, what is your name?”
The boy eyed the egg for a moment before speaking up. “Calvech, but you can call me Cal for short, and who are you?”
The human almost got the impression that whoever was speaking was bowing to him. “I am Neith, I am a symbiote, I and my race bond with other species and take over their bodies to live, without a host, we tend to exist in the form you see before you.”
“So then, what happens to the people you take over?” Cal questioned slowly, though he had an idea he probably wasn’t going to like the answer he was going to hear.
“I wipe them away, such idiocy simply isn’t needed.”
God damn it, Cal hated when he was right.
“And you were going to do that to me then, where you, take over my body and erase my personality?” Calvech questioned, repressing a shudder, just the idea of….of having your very sense of self wiped away, it was terrifying to the boy. To have someone else go walking away with your body.
“Yes, I was, if you had lifted me up when I called for you, I’d have dominated your body and wiped your mind clean.” Neith responded, as though such a thing didn’t bother him. “But now, now I am quite intrigued by you boy. I think you might be shocked by how easily one falls for my tricks, and yet, not only did you ignore them, you had the gall, the gall to call me out on my appearance and my methods. I wipe away the minds of the stupid, of the slow, of those who would only serve to weaken me, but you, you would make a powerful host.”
Cal paused at that, eyeing the egg warily, he could hear his pursuer’s getting closer. And he wasn’t sure how much longer he’d be able to outrun them. “So what, you want to work together with me then, is that it?” He questioned.
“Yes, simply put, you are being pursued, I can help you with such problems, your body is weak, it was born that way, through no fault of your own. I can strengthen it, give you a powerful body to defend yourself. And your mind would be very useful to me, your thoughts and way of thinking and seeing the world. I think you and I would work very well together.” Neith told him. “A partnership, we coexist within your form. You serve as my host and allow me to experience the world, and I will make your body strong, and protect you from those who would threaten us.”
Cal hesitated for a few moments, staring at the egg. He couldn’t deny, it was tempting. And with every second that ticked by, Dennis and his lackeys were getting closer, and if they caught him, he figured he’d be lucky if he ended up a rock in this forest, never to be found again.
And that was if he was lucky.
“Your word, on your magic and your life, that you won’t betray me, or attempt to affect my mind in any way.” Cal told him quickly. That was one of the first things they’d been taught in school, if dealing with a being who could use magic, make them swear by that to force them to abide by the terms of the deal. If such a deal was broken, it could very well destroy a being who survived by magic, as it was torn away from them permanently.
Once again, Neith felt his estimate of this boy rise. None before had taken the time to attempt to make him swear by a deal before bonding. Even if he had any intentions to mind wipe this child, he wouldn’t be able to if he agreed to such a deal. “I give you my word, upon my life, and upon my magic. That I shall do no harm to your mind or your body, and that you and I shall coexist within your new form.” He spoke solemnly. “Now hurry, pick me up, your enemies are fast approaching.”
Cal, glanced up, the yells of those boys getting closer, they’d be on him in a minute or two. “Fine, but I’ll find a way to screw you over if you betray me.” The boy growled as he reached down and scooped up the purple egg.
Neith felt a bloom of warmth pass through him as he rose up from the egg, an equine muzzle of liquid eyeing the boy, two black dots serving as eyes. “I’d expect nothing less from you my host, now, remain still, this will be quick.” Neith said gently before a flood of the violet liquid began to wash over the boy’s body.
Despite knowing it was coming, Cal couldn’t help but gasp as he took a step backwards as that sticky purple liquid began to move up his hand, everywhere it touched, his pale pink skin gave way, bulking up, turning a deep, dark violet, the hair of a horse slowly starting to grow over his body, over every inch the symbiote passed over.
“Your...your turning me into an anthro horse?” Cal questioned slowly, shuddering at the newfound strength that was flowing through his body as he was slowly changed. Staring down at his hands, clenching them. He felt like he could punch through boulders, any hint of weakness was being washed right out of him.
“Yes, I thought it was fitting for you, do you not like it my host?” Neith’s voice, rather than speaking from around him, spoke directly into the boy’s mind now as they were bonding together.
“I…” Cal trailed off, staring down as he watched his toes come together, hardening into a pair of hooves. The sense of exhaustion, of exertion from his run here, in fear for his life. It felt like it’d been nothing, like he’d only been walking quickly for a few minutes. “I love it, this is amazing.” The changes swept over his limbs, and up his chest, a thin, muscular tail ripping through his pants, ending in a large tuft of orange fur, the same shade that had been on the egg. “I feel so strong, like I could do anything I wanted.”
“Yes my host, you and I, together, my strength, and your mind, we will be able to do much together.” Neith practically purred into his host’s mind. “Now, we just have the finishing touches, and we shall be ready to face our opponents.”
Calvech nodded his head slowly, watching the flow of purple fur bloom over his chest, lines of orange fur cutting across his chest in arms as the changes began to make their way up his neck and over his head. The boy letting out a gasp as his face pressed out into a horse’s muzzle, his brown hair giving way to a bright orange mane, and he could even feel the stubs of a pair of horns starting to form, hidden beneath his new mane.
Cal slowly clenched his hands, panting as the changes finished, his hands roaming up and down his body, feeling the coarse hair on his hide, touching his longer muzzle, and even just taking the time to wag his tail a few times. It was all new and strange, and yet, he felt like he’d had this body for his entire life.
“That would be my doing my host, I helped your mind adapt to the limbs that you weren’t born with, your welcome by the way.” Neith said, sounding quite smug. “Now, I do believe we have company.”
As those words echoed through Cal’s mind, the fox and his two allies, a racoon and a kangaroo raced out from the trees. “Oi, horse, you see where a human ran off too, we gotta catch him before he causes any more trouble.” Dennis said dismissively.
Cal almost rolled his eyes. Despite being fairly strong when it came to magic and to physical strength, Dennis was by no stretch of the imagination very intelligent. It’d be easy to just deceive the fox and the rest of his little gangs. But hey,
Payback’s a bitch.
“I’m right here Dennis, you like the new and improved me?” Cal asked, grinning cheekily at the three smaller fur’s standing before him.
Dennis stumbled back, staring at the horse in shock. This….this was that sickly Cal...he was huge, taller than him, even if it was only by an inch or two. “What….but...you don’t have magic, you couldn’t have done this.” The fox hissed.
Cal beamed at them, thin tendrils of some kind of liquid slowly extending out of his back. “Your right Dennis, I had help.” He said brightly.
“What happened next, what happened next, did you beat them up, transform them, absorb them, what?” Chim asked excitedly, a bright grin on his muzzle as he stared at his friend in wonder.
Calvech laughed and shook his head. “Naw, nothing like that, we tied them in a tree for a few hours before cutting them down, Dennis didn’t bother anyone else after that.”
“I may have threatened to absorb him into my being if he attempted such things and we found out about it.” Neith pointed out casually, joining in on the storytelling.
The horse paused for a moment. “Can you even do that?” He questioned, earning a chuckle from his friends. They’d been bonded for how long, and Calvech didn’t know what his partner could do.
The symbiote would have been smiling if he could as he simply replied. “Spoilers, my dear host, spoilers.”
