The scale effect is sort of cool, but its very dark and indistinct. I think you lose a lot of the good details to the shading and color effect.

although on some parts i do agree with GothicDragon i must say this one gives a good aura to it. the dark, mysterious, powerful dragon. turning it's head to gaze that of which has entered it's territory

Yeah, I'm gunna just add a gray layer in the photoshop file so I can switch back and forth between the two by turning one off and turning the other on.
