In 7th grade, I was moved into a "School for the Gifted," meaning all the really smart kids were localized into a smaller, exclusive school where they could be "challenged more effectively." Sound like fun to you?
Halfway through the year, I was told to make regular visits to the school counselor for a number of reasons, the most prominent being my teachers' observations of my social skills (or lack thereof).
What they failed to realize was that the problem wasn't with me; rather, it was because the other students were all pretentious, elitist punks who wanted nothing to do with me and my non-stellar 3.0 GPA at the time.
Gotta love middle school.

Been there, had that problem too, except noone, not even the teachers or my parents wanted to help me.
I had to actually figure out how to be socially acceptable and stop being such a wimp on my own, and by 10th grade I finally got it, and I gotta say that it was very rewarding doing it on my own, but I really woulda liked some help along the way.
I'm ranting now, so I'll just say that this is pretty funny.

Ya know, when it came to school, I always found that a lot of the kids that had 3.0 gpa or lower were actually really smart, but it was the environment. Whether lacking in interaction with friends, or decent people. But the elitist thing... even that was in public schools, just not always full of 'brainy' kids.
Still, it is rather amusing to think that counselors and admin's thought they knew the answers. :)
