Greg purred happily as he layed in the bed he had stolen and dragged to his hideout in the attic of an abandoned building down the street. He deserved it much more than that nasty little dog who was using it before. In fact all his treasures were much better off with him, all of them liberated from their previous owners without them even seeing him. He admired his collection of trinkets and toys, mostly shiny things, he loooved shiny things! Which brought his attention back to his latest treasure, a little shiny thing that the humans wore around their neck sometimes, he liked it cause it looked a little like a cat. As he played with it he wondered why the humans wore it around their neck, it seemed silly to put it there where you couldn't see it easily. Curious, he slipped the string over his head to see what all the fuss was about, the string settling against the brown fur of neck right before the transition to the tan of his body. Instantly he felt a shock from the little shiny cat, making him meow in surprise and jump straight up into the air as the necklace flew off him, his bright blue eyes focused on it in fear. That had never happened before, why did he have to wear it like a human, what was he thinking. Retracting his claws from the ceiling beam he was clinging to, he gracefully landed back in his bed with a solid thump. Still staring at the necklace with distrust, he carefully batted it with a paw into the pile of other shiny things in the corner, not quite ready to get rid of it yet. Losing interest greg decided to go over to his perch and stare for more targets on the street below, his eyes searching for the glint of shiny in the sun. But he quickly began to get distracted by something else, his perch seemed smaller than before, he found he was unable to stretch out on it like he usually did, in fact, he was barely able to sit on it without feeling like he was gonna fall off. Leaning over to try and look below, he found himself oddly off balance, his paws gripping the wooden ledge weirdly, utilizing his longer than he remembered digits to try and grasp it rather than just extending his claws. Deciding the ledge was not safe, especially since it now was starting to creak loudly at his movements, he decided to head inside and was surprised that he could barely fit through the hole in the roof that served as his entrance. Greg meowed in frustration as he squirmed his way inside, his tail lashing in annoyance. What was going on, why was everything getting so small all of the sudden. Tumbling into his lair after freeing his hips from the tight space, he stood up and bumped his head on the ceiling which caused him to grasp his fur in pain. How had he even accomplished that, he wasn't even close to reaching it while on his hind legs! Looking down, Greg started to figure out that something was wrong and it wasn't his space getting smaller, it was him getting larger, in fact he was standing on his hind legs right now, he had naturally gotten up on them after tumbling into the lair. This was weird, even no he was just leaning over instead of going onto all fours like he should. Greg saw the cause of his problem might be his legs which looked radically different from the ones he was used to, now long and bulky, the joints in all the wrong places. His paws now thick and broad, quite the opposite of his forepaws which had grown quite lanky and flexible, quite useful for grabbing more shiny things now that he thought about it. Before he could think about that further, there was a loud crack as the floor of the crawlspace collapsed under him and he fell into the room below, thankfully landing on his paws
like he should, though he didn’t think his new forepaws were really meant for walking anymore. It was actually a little uncomfortable to stand on all four’s like this now. Getting up and brushing the dust out of his tan coat, he continued to examine himself, he certainly felt much stronger, he would need it to steal a larger bed as he looked at his pitifully small one now on the floor. His new attributes kept reminding him of the humans he so often stole from, though he was glad his cat self was still very prevalent. Things also seemed a little clearer to him now, plans on how to steal things now becoming a lot more complex than “grab it when they're not looking”. He was going to have to be a lot sneaker now, but the rewards would also be far greater. Greg purred as he looked out the window at the street below, looking for the bigger fish that were now within his grasp, tail flicking in thought behind him. His eyes drifting from the small trinkets like necklaces and to the big crates that those humans were unloading into the building across the street, the bright blue of his eyes seeing the banner across the street bearing pictures of shiny statues. He had been in that building before, when he was ...smaller. There were lots of things in there, but he could never figure out how to get past the invisible walls, he didn’t think they would be a problem now. It would be a bit more complicated to get inside now, but he definitely needed a pile of large shiny things to go with his smaller one.
