Climbing Chameleon Necklace w/ Sterling Silver and Swarovski
This is the fourth in my popular 'Climbing Chameleon' series of necklaces, and by far the flashiest and most opulent. So...shiny...O.o
The naturally deceased 2 1/2 inch juvenile Veiled chameleon has been carefully preserved/mummified and painstakingly mounted on a antique .925 sterling silver chain in a natural climbing position. The chameleon is fully intact down to every last toe. He has been mounted with a cute little turn/tilt to his head and a sweet little curl to the tail. He was coated in clear hard dry resin for the last step of the preserving process and is completely odor-free and hard to the touch, yet not at all brittle.
His toes actually appear to grip the chain so that he literally looks like he is climbing it, rather than looking like he is glued or hooked to it. The hidden dabs of hard-drying clear epoxy used to achieve this effect are completely invisible and do not effect the flexibility of the chain.
The chain itself is an 18 inch chain mesh tube that is stamped 'Italy' and '.925' per the American Stamping Act. It closes with a sturdy lobster clasp. It has been both cleaned and acid tested by a professional jeweler - no fake silver here.
The chameleon has been hand-painted in a shimmery baby blue and accented with pearlized white and a bit of a slightly darker blue to bring out the specimen's anatomy details. A glossy sealant finishes him off. My paints are homemade, if you didn't know. :)
The chameleon's sparkling 'eyes' are 6mm peridot green Swarovski crystals. They are all new point-backs, set deep into the skull. The pretty leaf that completes the necklace off is a real trembling birch leaf (Populoides Tremuloid) that has been dry preserved, skeletonized and electroplated in bright silver.
Buyer has the option of having me add tiny pale green speckles along the chameleon's spine starting behind the eyes; the subtle green matches the crystal eyes and will be hand applied for no added charge on request.
