Today, a friend and I visited a very healthy local creek to look for aquatic invertebrates for my class. We found lots of cool inverts, but the most fun was had chasing after crawfish and actual fish. In total, we ended up catching four of these little guys - they're banded sculpin, which are super common in clear, rocky midwestern streams.
We've decided to keep them as pets, in a native-themed tank. This will be quite the adventure.
