Masika's face blushed a bright red when she opened her cabin door and realized she had a not left on her pillow. Thyra just grunted and shook her head: "A little late for a booty call, isn't it?"
Masika could only glare at the mechanic but did not have much to respond with, "How do you know what it is?"
"I know her type..." Thyra sighed,[color=yellow] "Look, you come and see me almost every single day. You tell me about every fight and every disagreement you have with the Captain and, it does not seem wrong to you? I'm just saying that, whether or not you are looking for love, it doesn't mean the way she treats you is okay."
Masika's glare turned to an expression of hurt. Thyra was right in the sense that she had been going to see the Volcano Leo a lot in the engine room. She had been venting all her problems to this woman that was great for giving advice...even if it was blunt and felt like a thousand shards piercing her heart. Sure enough, as Masika opened the note it was a similar summoning as the other ones...a letter stating how lonely and distant Rias had been with Masika lately and how she wanted to 'make it up' to the Tempest Leothaun.
Thyra had it right from the beginning and it made Masika sad but it also frustrated her. Was Rias a bit difficult to deal with? Yes...
Had she been avoiding giving back the crystal shard from the Leothaun home planet even though she had promised to return it? Yes...
Also, Thyra had pointed out on the last planet that they were not closer to Qualdralis but farther from it so, where was Rias taking them? On top of that...Rias had been on edge lately, and Masika seemed to get the brunt of it when all was said and done. Also, who said she was looking for love anyways?
"Look, you're an adult and, I can see that you made up your mind on going to her room tonight. But, I think you should ask her what is going on. I'm just here for the ride but, if she told you we were headed back towards Qualdralis, well, I think there might be a bit more to Rias than she lets on. I'm suspicious to say the least...but, you have more access to her than I do. Just...be careful, be safe. I'll be in the engine room if you need me."
The Volcano Leothaun excused herself from Masika's cabin as Masika stuffed away the letter and prepared to meet the Captain in her room. Usually she was calm...this was almost routine but, now she felt like she had a lead balloon in her stomach. What Thyra had been saying before was really bothering her. What could Rias be hiding?
Rias stroked Masika's face as they kissed under the covers. Rias ran a few fingers across Masika's shoulder, making her shiver. Masika gasped lightly, kissing Rias' neck in response because she was embarrassed by her own noises. Rias moaned out a response: "Nevaeh..."
Masika pulled back, eyes wide and brow furrowed. What had Rias just called her?It wasn't like it was a common mistake...it was not even a name that started with an 'M' or a similar name like "Tanika" or "Marita". Masika could barely keep herself from screaming as she felt a jealous rage boiling in her. She did not want to over-react but, she was almost gritting her teeth as she said: "Who is...w-who is Nevaeh?"
Rias knew she had messed up, she just shrugged for a minute, tried to pull Masika to her, but, when she refused to answer, Masika had already hopped out of the bed and was searching frantically for her clothes. Rias slapped her own forehead...like a record stuck on repeat, she had experienced similar mishaps before and cursed herself for finding herself in another situation where she was just trying to get the woman to calm down and come back to bed: "Masika...sorry. Hun, please come back here. Lets just go to bed."
"Go to bed? You never call me in here just to go to bed, Rias!" Masika was half laughing and also on the verge of tears. Part of her could not understand why this news made her so upset. It should not have been a surprise. They had been stopping on various planets and moons for "jobs" on the Rias' route...Rias was gone for weeks and then would come back with not a word spoken on where she had been or what she had done. That's how Masika and Thyra had grown so close. Rias only wanted Masika near at night...especially when she was feeling lonely. And, rather than tell the truth, she was going to coax Masika into thinking they might actually 'sleep' next to one another? Like a real couple?! It was laughable... "No, I'm not going to bed, Rias. We are going to have some words and you...you are going to start telling me the truth! Starting with Nevaeh and ending with why this ship is going the opposite direction of Qualdralis!"
Masika was beyond the point of asking, now she was demanding...and Rias being naked and cornered in her room was not really in the position to refuse. The red dragon sighed, running her brow and temple like she had a massive headache coming on, her eyes then dropping as she looked at the sheets, refusing to look the Tempest in the face: "Okay. Well, to answer your first question, Nevaeh is a lover of mine...business partner as well. We met up on the last planet; I actually told her about you...what I know. She understands space gets lonely and-"
"Does she know you're married, Rias?"
"Yes...Nevaeh knows I'm married. She knows about you. She also knows about the...others..."
"There are others?!"
"I'm not...I'm not in a position to settle down, Masika. My people might all be dead, I'm traveling through space. I do like you..."
"Alright...I get it, I'm a convenience. Now, why have you not taken me home?! I told you the crystal can not revive anyone."
"I know that. Damn that Volcano for noticing because, we are almost there."
"Almost where, Rias?!?"
"My home. That Synx...it killed almost everyone, maybe everyone at this point. I just...I just thought maybe if we went there you two might help me. You might help me fight the creature and maybe together we could win."
So there it was...those were the big secrets. Rias had lovers on almost every planet they stopped at. That's why, for days after returning, Masika would not get a "call" to the Captain's quarters until they were deep back into space...back into the abyss. Rias said she just needed time to "rest" after her jobs...and Masika always thought it was because she was a merc and had seen horrible things. Now she knew what "resting" really meant...and it broke her heart. On top of that, she was infuriated! They were headed back to a planet killed by a space-parasite that had practically wiped out a whole species! Rias species! Her kind were all eaten...and entire army could not seem to stop this monster and even Rias said that when she faced it, she was most likely going to her death. So, she had condemned them to death as well?! Masika had never signed up for this!!!
Suddenly she could feel something wet on her cheek as she had finished dressing...it was a single tear drop rolling slowly down her face. Rias stood from the bed, reaching towards the Tempest but, Masika turned away, body almost shaking because of the hurt and betrayal she was experience. Thyra had been right, Rias really had been keeping some dangerous secrets from them: "You lied to me...you lied to Thyra! She is a warrior Rias so, you can take her on your hunt. A death like that would bring her honor in her clan...but me? I'm a historian on the path to be priestess! My powers are not like Thyra's!! You basically chose for us that we should fight for you and should die for you..."
Masika's voice started shaking as she continued (though mostly at this point she was babbling to herself): "I don't know what I expected from you...but the more I'm near you the more I realize how little I know you, and, what I do know...well, you and I are not compatible. We are not in any way alike and, I don't know what I expected of you."
"Masika...don't. You said you loved me..."
"...and honestly it was a mistake, Rias. Thyra was right...I don't even know what love is anymore. But, I can say that I don't think it's deciding for someone when they should fight your battles for you, and possibly lose their lives." that's when Masika ran out, hand cupped over her mouth. She was sobbing, she felt sick. She passed her room heading straight for the engines. Hopefully Thyra was awake and would listen. There must be a way to turn this ship around! If they landed on Rias' planet then who knows if they would ever see Qualdralis again?! Masika just wanted to go home and let Rias be and try to forget that any of this had ever happened...crystal shard or no.
