That I Promise

This is taken place in the version where Brawny gets out of the combine unharmed and unstressed enough for her to not abort. (May be the caes anyway, this is ahead of story and therefor non-canon)
There it came again. A shock of pain went though her body and she would arch in pain if her position would have allowed it. Labour pain, the word didn’t cover exactly how much PAIN there was. Splitting pain on the other hand…
“NURSE!!” shouted an orange Anthro though the door to her room. Finally two human nurses came running. “It’s happening.” the male Anthro said, although he didn’t seem had had to.
Like routine, the two nurses quickly looked though her values before one of the left the room again. This time she brought a doctor and a helper, who quickly drove off with the bed.
The male seemed left behind, until he registered what had just happened and followed the group. As he ran, Arashi hold onto the hammer he had around his neck.
Two days earlier, Bree had felt the first touch of labour pain. Almost all of their siblings had followed to the hospital soon after, except for Kye who had, to Arashis dismay, been with them in the ambulance. He had still not forgiven what had happen between Bree and Kye back in the compound.
Knowing that they had had no control over their actions due to drugs meant little to him; in his eyes, Kye was still the one who had impregnated his love in life, and the child that was now giving his love enormous pains were the physical proof of that. He couldn’t help but feeling wrath and hatred toward both the father and the unborn child.
They had been given a room when they arrived at the hospital, and in the beginning everybody had stayed. However the birth hadn’t been happening anytime soon and the others had slowly left to take care of other stuff.
Only Arashi had stayed all this time. The agreement had been that when the labour would begin, he should contact the others. However when Bree had screamed in pain in the middle of the night, it had slipped his mind.
As he was about to enter the last door, a nurse stopped him. “Sir, you need to wear this.” She gave him some light green cloth to take over his own. He did as told and entered the room.
Bree was the center of attention and both Anthro and Human nurses and doctors alike prepared for the birth ahead. One doctor was already looking at her process. “0.5 Inch.” He said, as another scream erupted from a sweat covered Bree. He rushed to her side. “Take a deep breath, just like we trained it.” As she took a series of deep quick breaths, he took her hand and squeezed it. “Looking good, you’re doing fine.”
“Wha-what do you define by finnnNNNNGH!!!” Her body tensed as a new wave of pain shoots though her body. Arashi was not far behind, since she now squeezed his hand in a grip of death. His face mimicked pain as he tried to release himself.
As the pain fainted away, her grip loosened, He tried again to get free, but in vain. “H-Honey, could you please l- let go…” The next sounds that came from him were animal grunts. She was struck by a new wave, and she squeezed harder than before. Although he couldn’t see it though the tears, Arashi knew that his hand was now nothing more than a bloody plumb of meat; the wet feeling that ran down his arm told him that much.
The personal looked in shock at the mess of sprayed blood, and once they recovered they soon helped him away. Upon feeling his grip being taken away, Bree opened her eyes to see what went on. Shocked she saw the blood that had been sprayed over one side of her bed, on her and on Mjolnir. A monitor in the background began to beep. “She’s going into shock!” informed one of the nurses, and soon the frozen personal came back to life, hurrying to carbines at the walls.
“Come, let’s fix this.” A nurse told Arashi as she dragged him with her. Unwillingly he followed her, looking back at the running and screaming that was left behind.
(…)
In a room on another level, Arashi was having his hand looked over. “Well based upon my expertise…” The doctor, a grey canine Antrho, said as he stood up. “Your hand is broken beyond healing. We have to amputate.”
Arashi sighed. He had expected that. The hand reminded him of one of his siblings that had been in the infamous ‘door accident’. The sight had not been pretty.
“We can give you a replacement of course, but that will be expensive and will take longer than I have the time for at this moment”. The doctor added as he was getting some tools from a small table. “But I can give your nerves attachments, so you can basically just ‘plug’ the hand on… with some medical help of curse…”
“Just get it over with, my mate is giving birth and I want to be there for her.” He said as he looked away from what he knew would come. The doctor grinned to himself as he gave a local to the messed hand. “Of course, I’ve heard how you got here. Sounds like your mate is a strong girl.” He took up a spinning blade. “You won’t feel a thing.”
Lie.
The cut-off piece of meat fell into a trashcan. “And now I will connect the ends of the nerves. With a refill of the drugs, you will only feel a slight sting.”
LIE!
“Done!” proclaimed the canine in an almost surprised tone. “Keep an eye on it, just in case it gets infected. Wash it daily, but use a neutral soap.
Also, if you see any red lines going up over the arm, contact a doctor immediately.” He instructed the clone as he covered the wound in Gaze and attached it in a cloth hanging from the neck.
“What’s that for” He hadn’t broken the arm, so why this? “To keep you from bumping it into things. Believe me; with the nerves attached like that, you DON’T want that to happen.” The doctor finished off.
“That’s all I can do for now. Now, get out and find your mate.” He ordered as he began the cleaning of the tools. Arashi took off with a quick nod.
(…)
When he came back to Bree, the birth was over. In her arms she was holding a small ball of wet, white fur. As he came closer he could see that she had been crying. “How did it go?” He asked as he took a seat. “They had to cut me open.” She replied, looking down at the yawning cub. He looked as well. There it was the symbol of unity between Bree and Kye.
The thing he had hated and feared for so long. Oddly how it didn’t wake any feelings in him, neither good nor bad. “Oh gawd, what did I do to you!?”
“Hm?” He followed her sight to his missing hand. “Oh, had to cut it off.” He said flatly. “I will replace it with something later. A hand… or perhaps a HOOK!” He tickled her on the neck, which made her give out a high pitch sound before she gave him a gentle hit to his ribs. Luckily the cub didn’t seem to notice.
“You want to hold him?” The question surprised him. He wanted to say no, but didn’t want to make Bree sad, so he accepted. It was a boy? He made an effort not to drop him as he did lack a hand. Upon looking down on the cub, he noticed that the fur was black around one of his eyes.
“Have a name for him yet?” He asked. She stretched, crackling her whole spine. “I dono, thought that the two of us would figure out something eventually?” “Really? And what about his… father?” She sends him a tired look. “Well I will be living with you, and so will the boy. You will be the father of him. I’ve talked to Kye and both of us wants to live with the one we love. He with Evelynn of course and me with you.”
Arashi was speechless as he thought about this. Him, a father of someone else’s cub?” He looked down on the boy again and watched him sleep in his arms. “Excuse me?” Came a small voice. Both of them looked at the nurse that stood in front of them. “The mother will need her sleep, and we will be taking the little one for observation, so, if you please…”
He blinked. “Oh, sure…” he then handed over the cub and turned over to Bree, giving her a kiss.” I’ll see you when you wake up, dear.” “Mmhmm…” She answered, already half asleep. Arashi left the room shortly after.
(…)
Outside the observation room, Arashi was looking though the glass at all the babies that was either sleeping or mumbling in their small beds.
Especially one had his attention. The cub of his mate and other sibling, the last remnant of a past trapped beneath a mountain. He couldn’t… he wouldn’t hold that against something that had had no saying in its creation.
He looked at the black fur again. In one of the books he used to read back at the compound, actually the same book that he had found his thing name, there had been a name of a god. A god who had had only one eye. He smiled to himself as he remembered. “Odin.”
He placed his remaining hand on the glass. “Like me and your family, you had no choice in your creation. Like us, you were destined to a fate of death and punishment. Unlike us… you have been born free. And I will give you what we were denied for years… Love.” He weakly hit the glass in a determined tone as tears began to appear in the corners of his eyes. “I will protect you my son. That I promise.”
