Details start getting rougher at this point.
I imagined that, at the beginning, Celestia and Luna operated almost as if they were a single unit, but as in the show Luna began to grow feelings of resentment when ponies showed less appreciation for her attempts to nurture them - or perhaps the relationship between the two of them involved Celestia being the dominant one and Luna wanted to turn the tables. This culminated in her taking in even more life force (maybe absorbing helpless lesser ponies, maybe some other eldritch entity) and becoming corrupted by her own hatred and anguish (something that will presumably also be another important factor of ponies in the eldritchverse), assuming an even more monstrous form than before, forcing Celestia of course to banish her.

The "corrupted by darkness" motif had always been a given, but the particular design I decided to follow was largely inspired by the Pus of Man enemies from Dark Souls 3, especially with the snake head arm.
The wings came from Gore Magala though.
