i watch anime alot like bleach, dragon ball z, tokyo goul, naruto, jojo's bizzare adventure, and naruto shippuden. (so yeah i do get the naruto reference never heard of gunbuster before.)

It's Gainax doing a super robot show in the late 80's. It's kind of tame by their standards now, but watching that, then the sequel Diebuster, really gives a feel of how they came up with Gurren Lagann. Both shows are short too, only six episodes apiece, and are both at the top of my list of favorite anime. Not to mention I'm a huge sucker for both endings. So I'd say they're definitely worth looking into!

a show that ran in the 80's. It's' not gonna be airing on TV, haha.
But I'm sure you can figure out a way to watch if it you look.
