Australian roach (Periplaneta australasiae). One of about 50 I keep in a tank in my bathroom. :> They're pretty and highly prolific breeders.
I took several decent photos of them this morning in the sunlight. I love the transparency of their legs, wings and mouthparts with the sun backlighting them. It wasn't easy getting good photos as they were all frantic to find a dark hiding spot away from the sunlight. :P They're not used to it, as I keep them in the bathroom closet, which is the darkest and warmest spot in the house. Spoiled little roaches :)

I've kept from 6 to 10 different species of cockroach for a few years now, but I've loved them all my life. :) This colony was formed from one wild-caught female, at least two years ago. She has laid at LEAST 30 eggs since. She died a few months ago but her children live on XD
I think a lot of the fear/disgust that people have today is spawned when they're children and they see their parents freaking out about a bug haha.
Once certain species of cockroach breed - just once - they can lay dozens of eggs for the rest of their lives. Pretty fascinating if you ask me :)

I've read that they only lay as many eggs as their enclosure allows, so that it never gets overcrowded. But if they do get too numerous, I just get a bigger tank XD
Thankfully we'll be getting a giant centipede soon, and my tarantulas are growing more and more each day... soon they'll be big enough to eat any "extra" roaches :P

We have two bathroom closets, the larger one is filled with tanks and there are even more tanks in the kitchen (mainly critters that can tolerate less humidity/warmth like my salamander and toads). They're taking over haha. It's not too overcrowded yet, but if it DOES get that way... well, I'd get rid of my kitchen table if I had to XD
