Because that's just how I see it. I carry pepper spray at the moment since work is a gun-free zone, and rightfully so.
Campus is also gun-free, but really shouldn't be. With the long hike between the classrooms and the commuter parking lots going through isolated back alleys and a graffiti-covered rough neighborhood, I really don't think it's at all unreasonable to allow guns on campus. It's not a controlled area.

You would have loved the community college in the town I used to work in. The security carried M-16 and side arms just because they had the proper licenses. I thought it was rather cool myself, the town was also a big Michigan militia town out in the middle of nowhere. I miss living there. You got a really good message here and I'm with you, I mean if the common criminal illegally carries a firearm how is a common law abiding citizen supposed to protect them self?

But really - I don't care with what or if the criminal is armed. I am a total wimp. I'd be ground into the pavement.
Typically that just means that I avoid places where something bad could happen like the plague. But when class lets out at 7PM, it's been impossible. There's a two mile trek from the classroom to the commuter parking lot and before daylight savings - that was completely in the dark. After being flashed by a guy on campus I know that even the college students are a serious problem, never mind the problems involved with that really rough neighborhood on the north border of campus, where campus cops don't go and the real cops are too busy busting people for serious crimes to be able to respond to an emergency before it becomes a tragedy.

I never really had a problem, but then again I'm lots bigger than most people. Pepper spray like you said is probably your best choice, I mean even if that guy who flashed you got hit with pepper spray I'm sure he would regret it. LOL No problem, like I said I grew up in a huge Michigan militia town I'm all for guns. Hopefully things will straighten out for you there and at least its daylight out for you now.
