Something I was working on a while back was a kind of Borg-like cybernetic infection that would alter creatures into more weaponised/efficient versions of their base forms.
I still like this idea but I'm actually using the idea of 'neon life forms' a bit differently now.

I suppose it depends upon what you mean by 'cure'. The biomechanical changes to the body would be irreversible - but it might be possible to 'free' the original creature from whatever psychological hold the NEON virus has over them.
