People don't want clowns no more...
We seem to be out of fashion now.
We seem to have lost our dash, somehow.
We've all just lost our clout.
They don't think we're fun no more...
Comedy has since passed us by
It's just moved on, don't ask me why
And left us down and out.
...
But I remember the day
When everyone loved the clown.
I remember the day
Whenever the circus came to town
All the kids in the neighborhood
Ran after you down the street!
Everyone's next door neighbor would
Bang on the wall as hard as they could,
"They're here! They're here!
Come out and give 'em a cheer!"
And the elephants holding each others' tails
Came lumbering through the crowd
Pulling the cages that held the lions
And liberty horses trotting proud!
The man on the stilts and the acrobats
Came tumbling through the town
And behind them to tremendous cheer,
The hero of the day appeared!
The clown! The clown!
Everyone loved the clown...
...
People don't want clowns no more...
The things we do don't make them laugh.
The tiny car that splits in half,
No longer stops the show.
They don't like our gags no more...
The slippery planks and bowls of paste,
Such hard work all gone to waste,
And nobody wants to know...
But I remember the day
When the clowns were the only thing!
I remember the day
Whenever we entered the circus ring.
That joyful sound, the magical roar,
Would surge up from the crowd,
And as each prat-fall shook the floor,
And little kids came back for more,
The laughs were loud!
The laughs were long and loud!
Banana peels all over the place
And custard pies that flew!
And a burst of seltzer right in the face!
And the baggy trousers filled with glue.
One on a square-wheeled bicycle,
And one had giant ears.
And the final chase 'round the edge of the ring,
You felt no pain! The only thing
Was the cheers! The cheers! You never forget the cheers!
Now we're just their fears...
...
People don't want clowns no more...
I would blame TV myself.
That's what put us on the shelf.
That's what did us in.
We've all been made so scary now...
We now just bring forth cries of fear
We're shunned wherever we appear
The paint is now a sin...
Too many of us are monsters now.
The Joker started the rot.
Now everyone's joined the nightmare train.
Once beloved, now we're not.
There's Needles and Kefka and Pennywise...
That's just to name a few.
We're all considered monsters now...

Clowns are the best fun-makers in the world, i love them and cheer for them^^ *Gives the clown a yummy muffin and lots of hugs and love*
Clowns need to be loved again by the people, especially the kids, and to show them they're not as scary as the media nowadays portrays them.
*Gets a pie thrown into his face* ;P

Maybe it's time there are good clowns to stand up against the evil ones. The clowns that remember what it's like to laugh and bring joy to others the ones willing to stand up and bring a mallet to the mean evil creepy ones. Willing to use that old circus magic to fight the horror these corrupted amusers bring. I still laugh at the circus visiting Barnum and Bailey's greatest show on earth. And those clowns really know how to make people laugh again. They are the new generation of clowns ready to fight the creepy ones and to bring joy into people's lives and they take clowning seriously. So there is hope for the clown As a new generation rises and puts on the red nose.
Coulrophobia is far from new. People were afraid of clown back in 1800s. If you remember the days when everyone liked them, you are really old Jester... unless it is the skull that sing the song. That would be more appropriate. I could see the skull of a long dead clown claiming nostalgia about an epoch where clowns weren't that frightening.
MST3K! I've always loved that bittersweet song from the Pod People episode. Thanks for sharing it with everyone here.

John Wayne Gacey,
Stephen King's "it",
American horror story: Freakshow,
The joker,
Creepy clowns currently popping up outta nowhere people 'bout ready to shoot 'em,
frightland and other outdoor horror exhibits that feature evil clowns prominently,
Just one PR nightmare after another for the clown industry.

Yeah... there's Sweet Tooth and Jestro and Dhoulmagus and the Killer Klowns From Outer Space...
But I remember Bozo. And Krusty. Hell, HOMEY had his charms when he wasn't wielding a sock full of quarters. "Homey don't play that!"
I like clowns. Clowns hold no terror for me.

I don't like the aesthetic of clowns, myself, especially circus clowns and clowns used for birthday parties. Entertainers like jesters (especially your jesters) I'm more comfortable with, for some reason. I think it's because, even with the face paint, jesters seem more human and intellectual and stuff than the creepy caricature that the modern clown is depicted as, with or without the intent of scaring. Old-timey jesters have a wit and wisdom to them that makes them seem like idiot savants than true fools.
Then there's mimes; Personally, while I don't like mimes, either, I don't understand the outright disgust people have of them. They're like pro wrestlers, in a way; they're selling the illusion of their routine being real, and have to choreograph the hell out of it in order to ensure they don't get hurt. Doesn't mean I have to like them, but I can admire the effort needed to be one. Hell, you kinda need to be trained as a mime to get certain other entertainment work done, like puppeteering or such.
Much like any other weird subculture, modern pop culture has taken one memorable negative aspect of them and twisted it out of control into something that doesn't relate to them as a whole in any significant way. Just like furries have become synonymous with animal-fucking, clowns have become indicative of childhood terror. And, unfortunately, it's become so prevalent in the public consciousness, that I doubt it'll ever be fully expunged, in time and with proper understanding.

Well, that's a shame. I thought that he was such a nice and cheerful clown.

I've always had a soft spot for clowns and jesters. It is much more than entertainment, but is also an artform. the clowns were capable of altering our emotions: a happy clown makes us laugh, and a sad clown makes us feel sympathy. then there were the jesters with their elegant outfits, that just the sight of them was enough to excite us.
Whenever I see hideous Halloween clown masks, all I want to do is burn the wretched things.
