This is Chauncey's mother Charlotte. She died a sickly, lamenting, mourning, miserable mess. But then again, she lived that way too. She's a waif just like her son, and babied Chauncey terribly. Her coddling made him the way he is today.

Chauncey and Charlotte lived in their castle on a cliff overlooking the sea. The place is literally collapsing. It's only a matter of time until the entire thing falls off the edge into the rocks and waves below. Rather than do anything about it, Chauncey pretty much decided that he'll join his home and fall to pieces with it. Even if his butler, caretaker, and ETERNAL SOUL MATE Jacob, secretly works to keep the place together while Chauncey spends his days doing laudanum and playing violin on his fainting couch.
