“Thank God the the nails survived...”
The mongoose tended to her claws, careful with the finger she hurt after playing her second preseason game against the Winnipeg Voyageurs. The thought of playing against her sister clouded her mind for most of the game. Despite being a preseason round, there was some disappointment in losing, but what was on Danica’s mind first and foremost was what was her sister doing in this moment? She wasn’t affected on her game as she was, nor made much effort to reach out for her. It was eating at her slowly, but kept herself distracted with her claw polish collection to restore any damage it could have happened.
“Like, hurted like hell, but I’m so much better now, I guess it’s the par for the course for this career, but if it damaged the paint job, I’d so die...”
The fellow teammates decided to leave her to her thoughts. However, no one noticed the door opening, letting a tall, blond mongoose in, pretty much identical to the Firestorm Forward. When Danicashe saw her, the mongoose could only gasp, as it was her sister, who she hasn’t seen for weeks. For the identical twins, the shock from being at each other’s company 24/7 to separated for weeks into their own businesses was a hit that was worse than expected, but the moment they saw each other, their troubles washed away.
“AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!” Danica stepped up and ran towards the figure that entered the room, hugging her excitedly, startling her teammates with her surprised scream.
“Oh my God, CHANTY! It’s been SO long!” Danica greeted her sister excitedly.
“Had to make this pitstop and you know it, sis!” Chantal replied.
“Ohmygod like, we got a LOT to catch on. Seems we both got out winning our first games!”
“Yup! You did pretty well, despite the finger thing...” Chantal joked.
“Like, don’t EVEN go there, Chanty!”
The girls spent their time catching up, whether it was Danica’s hair troubles, Chantal’s surviving in the extremely foreign territory which was Canada and everything in between. Some of the Firestorm players who were close, namely the likes of Edwin Griega and Agundio Atti-Morales saw the pair mostly amused at the spectacle. It was no secret her teammate didn’t stop talking about her sister Chantal, so finally seeing the double act in action was crazy enough. After what seemed an eternity talking non-stop, eventually they had to part; the avians swearing they had to use crowbars to break them apart, but as they waved goodbye again, the glitzy mongoose walked up to them, in her effort to get to know her team better.
Danica sat down next to Edwin after her sister walked out. "Like, for real, if I spent one day without seeing Chanty, I'd go nuts, I tell ya, hunny!"
Edwin looked at her, perking a brow, "Uh huh... and with the exception of breaks, you're not going to be seeing her very much over the next eight months. So, should we find out if Louis Muitton makes a designer straightjacket?"
Danica rolled her eyes. "We know the deal, silly goose. It'll only make our time together more precious and absolutely important. You know, family and all..."
Edwin nodded. “I got an older sister, so I get ya.”
"And you know... I'm sure no amount of money or teams or whatever will ever ever separate us. Like, I'm sure if our teams didn't let us to meet, we'd bail out at the milisecond! Nothing in this world can split us Magnanos!" she gestured. "It's a twin thing..."
“I almost had the closest thing avians can have to that… The egg didn't make it, though.”
"In all, I'm so like, super happy we're still an item going strong, know it's prolly hard on her too! But you know... it's the little things in life that make it a nice ride, like, you get me? She missed me, we go together and we’re both fueled up again!" she asked. "Nothing will change our bond, and we know it! Thanks for being nice and all to me, cutie. I'll be, like, up and ready to make the Firestorm Fab!"
The goose reached up and adjusted the piercing on his right brow, the look of annoyance would be clear to pretty much anyone except Danica. “Yeah... well, we'll see how this season goes, eh?”
Danica stepped up, organizing per bag in an almost compulsive fashion. "Absolutely hun! TTYS, I'm sure to be up and ready for this next game! Thanks for being a dear to a lady!" she blowed a kiss and went back to her phone, making sure to share the stories and time together with her sister, excited their bond was stronger than ever.
Edwin rolled his eyes and pleaded when out of sight of the rookie. "Hope Agundio can pray to his higher power for my guidance and the patience for me to not go off on that airhead?"
==============================
The night was starting to get deeper in the city of Montreal, most of the Voyageurs already tucking out for the night. The mongoose arrived to the lobby, trying to find someone of her team before she called it a night herself, effectively finding the pangolin nosing on his phone.
"Sup, biggie?" Chantal asked. "Back from the business I hinted at..."
The pangolin shrugged, looking up from his phone. "Okay, so? What of it? If you're planning to talk about some random fling, I'm not the right audience for you."
Chantal scoffed. "I ain't about that floozy life, biggie. It's about my sister…” The mongoose sat down next to her teammate. “You know, us being so far away can take a toll on her, and guess is just me wanting to be a good sis and aid. It's a twin thing..."
Kevin shrugged once again, putting his phone away, figuring the woman wasn't going to leave him alone. "I wouldn't know, only child."
"All this league crazy has made me think about something..." she shifted in her seat. "I'm realizing more and more that there's a big freedom in not having to make anymore 'we' choices, but rather 'me' choices for a change. I love her, but… independence was meant to be one of these days."
"I guess. But I can't really say that I know. Like I said, only child. All my choices have really been 'me' choices."
"With twins is like... a whole new perspective." she explained. "But overall, I admit I am proud that it seems that we are becoming personalities on our own. I've been able to make friends without her, and do stuff without her consent. Shows we're becoming stronger on our own as well as together. And that solitude is healthy for both of us."
The pangolin let out a small sigh. "Look, I don't mean to be rude, but you felt like sharing this with me why? I mean, good on you and all for being open and willing to share things that go on in your life, never works bottling things up, but seems kind of odd to share such a thing with a guy you barely know."
Chantal shrugged. "Just trying to get my new teammates to know about me and start off in a right foot. And who's better off to try with first than the media-described sweet gentle giant of the FBA?" she joked.
Kevin let out a small chuckle. "Well, you'll learn well enough soon to ignore a lot of what the media says. They are quite often wrong."
"I saw you scraping those boards, big guy, they could be wrong!" she laughed. "But overall, is part of me that needs to let you know guys I ain't got like… a hidden agenda or a drama bomb or “the psycho speciecist killer superbitch” whatever whatever. I'm just a small, 6' 8" girl from Vegas who likes basketball... Which happens to come in a package of two."
"Well, that's good at least. Winnipeg really doesn't need somebody like that, so I'll hold you to your word."
"Seems it'll be nice playing here, Kev. You up for brekkie and cardio tomorrow? Or are you gonna haze a poor little thing like me?" the mongoose jested.
Kevin shook his head. "Sure, I'll come for breakfast. Not sure about the cardio. And no need to worry about hazing, if you knew what I went through my rookie year, you'd know I'm very much against that shit."
Chantal smiled. "Deal, thanks for humoring a lady, Kev. Seeya." she waved him goodbye. "You can rely on me stepping up if the razor's too sharp it cuts itself... or his suit..." the mongoose winked, smiling at Kevin’s eyebrow raise at the reference of his Draft Day. The pangolin gave her a short nod before leaning back into his chair and pulling out his phone once more.
Chantal got her phone out, looking over her parents’ and friends’ congratulations for her first game. She looked over at the new notifications from her sister’s social media, mentioning her whenever she could. The mongoose didn’t pay much mind on her sister’s business, and switched the tab to talk up with the new Canadian friends she got acquainted to.
She had to start her own life soon, and this league was a sign and the perfect platform for it.
