I was going to record this earlier, but the arrangement I was going to use simply didn't work.
So, I went with a simpler one, and did a lot different.
First of all, I put it down a major fourth. The original key was just too high for my voice.
Then I tried an experiment: I slowed down the tempo about 10%, recorded it at that tempo, the sped the tempo up 10% after recording. That made pronouncing the words much easier, and it actually worked.
Then, I decided to have The Beach Bears do the backing vocals. Recorded them as I usually do with the speed changes, then changed the tempo for them all afterward.
Then, I put it through Melodyne to get the precise pitches needed to make this sound very Devoish. (I discovered overdoing it didn't work).
Then back into Audacity to compress, balance, stereo, and voila. This is the result.
Backing track by The Karaoke Channel and purchased on iTunes. Original song written and performed by Weird Al Yankovic
