Ok, so the actual events of what transpired in the program that Spyro was messing with will be conveyed on-the-date, I figured why not give a little preview since the trailer came out.
Yep, Skylanders Academy. Kind of already said my piece already on the matter after Spyro's inital...ahem...confrontation with his "alternate self".
I've seen the comments on the trailer itself, and naturally there's a split. After a recent Minecraft LP viewing, centering on a Pokemon mod to the game which is quite awesome, I was reminded that Pokemon itself shares a rift between fans in the sort of "-geners". Mostly it's with the current "generation" if you will and "First Geners", as in those who were with Pokemon from the start, including the 151 original (and quite possibly the first run of the Pokemon show).
Anyway, that reminds me of the Spyro V. Skylander's Spyro reflection. Personally, if I had to side, I go with the OG. I mean you can't really bash OG Spyro himself, as without him, Skylander Spyro wouldn't even exist.
But hey, that's just me. The more you're use to something, the more you become accustom to it, the more it becomes attachable. Kids at the time started growing up with Skylanders Spyro, and not the original, so that's what they get use to.
Personally, the trailer was pretty decent, and it looks like the series is going to be some fun. I still haven't played any of the games (have the original, on standby), but it hopefully seems like it may not be necessary (as I believe was indicated early in the announcement). I kind of like that handle, where you DON'T have to pay for the game to get core stuff in the series, though those who do may get some things and nods better than others.
From what I can tell, the Academy is a school for training Skylanders. Ok, cool. Eon is alive and not a floaty head, so apparently is sorta past story. I'm not 100% if Kaos is a student or not, given the concept pieces beforehand, seemed so, and maybe it shows his departure from the Academy to go do his own thing. From how it seems, Skylander Spyro seems to be an established student already, with a cocky attitude and overconfident stride to himself. That's our boy. He may look like something molded from purple-throw-up-clay, but at least some personality survived.
With a writer from Futurama on-board, I hope the series will remain entertaining enough that it doesn't fall into typical "school tropes" as it were. And who knows, maybe if it's popular, a new, actual Spyro game will come out in the future, maybe a new series or film. Here's hoping.
Also...Skylander Spyro digging a guy with a bananna for a head? Really? What are your standards drag...?
