When I sew zippers to fur, I sew them from the fur side, using a slightly modified ribboning foot (I think that's what it's called.) It has a little stainless pin that conveniently parts the fur, allowing me to sew through the backing only, leaving the fur free, and thus now showing the zipper stitch.
It's difficult to do, and I imagine it would be harder on such a small piece; but it sure looks nice and is quite easy to do.
Faux fur is soooo hard to work with. I always admire anyone who does.

Wow, that sounds really useful! I'm going to look for one of those! Thanks for mentioning it :)
I used a medium stitch length and was able to brush some of the fur out...if you look closely you can still see it but since it's at a lower cuff I don't think it'll be noticeable. We'll see!

Yeah, it can be cleaned up someone, especially if you keep the stich loose; but its a risk. I have had to sew from the back on occasion, and went so far as to use masking tape to create a part, but as you can imagine, it's never perfect and some fur does clog the stitches.
Look at thrift stores for the feet. They're usually a dime a dozen, and you get a lot of other interesting feet in boxes of sewing machine accessories.
Have fun!
