My Inktober theme this year critically endangered species, and sadly I doubt I will have much trouble filling up 31 days with them.
First up is the Saola! The saola’s closet relatives are cows, buffalo, and bison and was only discovered in 1992! Because it’s range is so limited it’s biggest threat is habitat loss and fragmentation, but it’s rarity also makes it a prized trophy, as well as a victim of the illegal fur, medicine and bush meat trade. Unfortunately, since it is so rare very little is known about it, and scientists have never observed it in the wild, which makes it very hard to conserve.
