Jean-Leon sighed as he sat on their living room floor. He stared intently at the sketchbook in his hands as though hoping to find an answer in the blank page, but there was no such luck. His tail flicked stiffly and his ears laid back against his head.
He was terrified.
The stallion finally threw the sketchbook on top of a pile of other papers and sketchbooks, snorting heavily as his nostrils flared. Jean ran a shaky hand through his mane and sighed.
“Is she really worth this…?” He muttered under his breath; Tanya had long-since gone to bed, leaving the stallion to brood over his own emotions on these new developments.
It had been over two years since he'd decided to leave behind everything he knew and loved in Montreal to be with her. To come all the way across a continent so Tanya wouldn't be coming home to an empty apartment. Having found work with his old mentor, the adjustment hadn't been that hard. Add in a certain saluki and things were pretty comfortable and normal.
But now the honeymoon was over, as it were. He was expected to, once more, drop everything and follow Tanya across the continent. Why did he feel like he was playing the lost puppy? Trotting after the gerenuk wherever she went in desire for her affections.
No, he loved her. He truly did. And he wanted to support her…but in the moment, he found himself bitter. Was this his life now? Moving around a country he couldn't yet call home, changing jobs and never able to start his own business…to follow a woman? Jean closed his eyes and sighed, picking up his sketchbook once more and a pencil and starting to sketch absently.
Tomorrow he'd talk to X and explain the situation. He hoped the giraffe would be okay on his own once more.
Tomorrow he'd start looking for work in Biloxi. There had to be a shop somewhere that needed his talents.
Tomorrow, maybe he’d feel better about this.
Tonight, it was operatic rock and dark drawings in his sketchbook while Tanya slept alone.
A quick story for Jean-Leon as he ponders his relationship and his own thoughts on the Gerenuklear Decision.
