If I recall, a full release did happen, but they took it down to comply with copyright stuff. You might still be able to find it somewhere online, but the original makers aren't offering it anymore. A shame, but sadly companies like Nintendo are kinda obligated to protect their trademarks like that, or they could risk creating a legal precedent for people to make stuff like that for profit. :(

yea same happened with another metroid 2 remake (am2r) which though i REALLY suck at metroid looks really cool and the additions from metroid 2 are real cool i mean yes they are obligated to take them down but its still sad

It is sad. I just don't like it when people turn around and demonise Nintendo as evil fun-hating monsters without knowing the facts (plus I can bet these same complainers wouldn't care if it was Sony or Microsoft doing it, Nintendo tends to be a convenient whipping boy for these people). Nintendo is absolutely obligated to aggressively protect their trademarks, especially with projects as big as AM2R or Pokemon Uranium, or it can end up becoming a legal precedent, which would fuck them over immensely if someone then started stealing Nintendo's IPs to make their own commercial releases. It's a sad situation for everyone. :c
