I know i would go for the first.
My son's 6 and has been going to cons since the age of 2. I don't let him out of my sight, he knows to hang onto my tail and stay with me. But, *I* also know that he's a kid, and one with ADHD, and so I find large open areas to let him run and burn off energy regularly while there.
OHHH! For the KIDS! Right-right-right... MORE for US!
