Close enough, they are transformed into energy which is then stored within his cells to give his body energy when he is unable to access the inverse dimension from which his powers originated (only accessible during the night, an eclipse, or when his anger is at its peak).

POOR TUMMY! *buries face into it* poor tummmmyyyyyy.

Quite true, he is unable to enjoy food anymore (though still somewhat able to taste it) as he no longer has a stomach which is why it is a cursed, he has a lot of power but is now unable to enjoy the essentials of life such as food, breathing (though he can still smell), and even light at times, he is still able to feel emotions though, but being able to see ones greatest fears makes it quite hard, though he feels good when he can make one feel happy by feeding off of their nightmares thereby giving them pleasant dreams, even though he could gain more power by influencing their nightmares creating more and darker ones to feed off of.

In essence he is now basically a shadow.
