My father thinks that all the new car designers should have to go on a mandatory trip around the country to the various auto factories of the older cars, so they can learn a thing or two about style, and so they can learn from the past what makes a design timeless.

Well, actually an Auburn 852 Speedster if I'm not mistaken, though Duesenberg did own Auburn at the time. But I agree. there's a sense of style to the luxury cars of the Thirties that is largely lacking in today's vehicles - and I include the Boyd Coddington clones infesting the custom car world in that. There are reasons I don't own any vehicles made after 1976...

I too despise modern car designs. I will admit, they are posh and luxurious, once you get into the higher end BMW's and Mercedes', but they are incredibly bland and homogenized. WAAAY too much plastic for my taste.
Give me luxurious curved aluminum and steel any day!
