This is an....interpretation piece as well as an experimentation of sorts. I wanted an image I could use for a profile icon (indicating I am a woodworker with a bear 'fursona'), so I chose to make a bas-relief carving of a bear.
Full disclosure: I didn't have my own reference material for bears, so I traced one of the logo images from one of my tools from the manufacturer Grizzly for the base line-art before making my own interpretations on shading by carving and color.
The coloration for this carving was a touch inventive for me: I used a heat gun (normally used for heat-shrinking cellophane) to singe the areas I wanted darker, and touched up some of the areas I wanted lighter with either additional carving or sanding.
The actual size of this piece is about 4 inches (9.5 mm) square, made from a solid piece of Bass-wood (AKA Linden wood, or Lime-wood), with a carving depth of less than 1/8 inches (5-6 mm). The watermark was digitally added.
I would prefer not to sell this piece, but am agreeable to commissions of similar works.
