On this first "Throwback Thursday" of October, 2016 (10-6-16), in conjunction with the impending arrival of Hurricane Matthew, I thought I'd post several 'photo-ops' I'd taken (with my 35mm camera) of the aftermath of Hurricane Wilma, which passed through my part of Broward County in late October, 2005...
Since I had a job at the time, and I needed my car to commute to and from work, I'd decided to leave my Kia Rio in its parking space at Oriole Gardens (in Margate, Florida), next to a structure facing opposite my condo building - figuring that no debris was going to fall down on it. The nearest tree was a ficus over ten yards away to the north of my car, but I'd assumed that it wouldn't fall down to the south, as the high winds of Wilma were blowing eastward...
Little did I know how unpredictable the weather could be. Said ficus was inevitably uprooted and fell, all right... to the southeast! The top of the tree barely missed the back of my car by a few feet! And that frond in the picture (lower left) came from the broken branch of a fallen palm tree (which the winds blew over to the left side of my car). All in all, my Kia Rio survived Wilma (as did all of the Oriole Gardens residents), and I got to use it to go to my 'toll collecting' job, following the storm. (Too bad I'd lost my job less than two years later.)
I hope to survive Hurricane Matthew (coming up later today), and to return here next "Throwback Thursday" with 'photo-ops' of other subject matter - besides acts of 'Mother Nature'...
