Those aren't cracks on the sides of the skull. Those are tear-stains caused by the cubone crying whenever it sees the full-moon. Being reminded of their deceased parent when they look at it.

Actually, if you look closely, all the grass around is dead. But, on the grave, there's a tiny flower of hope blooming to show the cubone everything will be okay. c:
