Anatomically speaking, horns never stop growing in most species. So if you wanted it to be realistic being able to do something like that would have repercussions. They would have to like...get fake ones to wear and disbud the real ones. I think that would get real complicated real fast, I prefer your solution here XD
Or that projectile stuff Syndrome used in a booby trap in his lair in The Incredibles? Or Bio Dango(e?)s from the old Dominion Tank Police OAV/OVA? Maybe those both'd just bring about more risks than they prevent. Anyhow, I guess it all depends on the technology of the world the uni inhabits.

Back in the 90s, Kevin and Kell had a bunch of anthros (including a giraffe, whose head I think was too high up to be seen in-panel) get together to talk about furniture and ergonomics and such.
