Have a Big Boiler-Based Bot Boy. Alliterations are absolutely awesome, ay?
I've always really really liked Steampunk themes in fantasy settings, so I decided to draw me'self a big, lumering steam-powered robot character!
The idea with this big chunky 'bot is that his entire belly would be a big water tank, needed to produce the vast amounts of superheated steam needed to move his body and perform tasks requiring heavy lifting or feats of strength. The water within him would be brought to a boil by a furnace unit in the core of his midriff, and both it and his water tank could be accessed and topped off via a pair of small "hatches" on his back.
His design isn't without it's flaws: much like a regular boiler, the quantity of water within himself would need to be kept within a certain threshold. If too little water remained in his belly, it could lead to too much water being converted into steam too fast, leading to over-pressurization of his frame and internal components. This would lead to HUGELY hindered movement, and if left unchecked could eventually lead to leaks, plates being blown out, or worse!
He can prevent this issue by refilling himself with large amounts of water periodically. He can do this himself through his mouth grille, although it's far more efficient to refill his boiler via the hatch on his back. Refilling via the latter method also removes the possibility of him overfilling himself with water. If too much water is present in his belly, his furnace core isn't able to produce steam efficiently enough to fully power his internal pistons and components. Too much water will leave him stuck on his rear, unable to lift his own overly-ample heft off the ground and behaving uncharacteristically lethargic and grumpy until enough water has boiled away.
The temperature of his internal furnace is tied somewhat to his mood, which means a sad disposition can also cause him to "bottom out" under his own weight.
I might add some more details here if anything else comes to mind. Hope you all enjoy!
(Uuuuuuuugh, his right arm is wonky and it's buggin' the shillings out of me.)
UPDATE: I was doing some backstory brainstorming for this guy today, and briefly tossed around the idea of having "Lebetem Creaturae, Protoypus š-Vš" engraved and weathered somewhere on his body.
Regardless as to whether or not the language engraved on him ends up being some kind of latin, I like the idea that one of the only recognizable letters on him would look cosmetically like a "K". As such, another character might take note of that and refer to him phonetically as the only letter on him that they recognize (and then I get to make the obvious joke about him being plus-sized, hurr hurr I'm soooooo clever...)
