Peering out one of your few uncovered windows what a sight to behold... Doesn't bring you much relaxation though.

For the most part the exterior is solid stone and brick very old style of build along with the hall design and set up i'd call about 1800 early 1900. The place even though most of it is gone is a large maze intended to keep patients from finding exits. The floors are made of a solid wood which for the most part is still solid and hard though very dry and possibly prone to fire. A few spots here and there are water damaged to the point the floor and ceilings gave way. Oddly enough the attic of the building has a solid concrete floor.
Actually, the style is a variant on Richardsonian Romanesque with gothic revival accents. It's a common style throughout the Eastern US. I'd guess more in the range of 1870- perhaps 1880-1885 at the latest. These styles were very popular for state hospitals, prisons, and armories during the era, and can be found from time to time in residential architecture of the period as well. There are excellent examples as far south as Louisville, in Kentucky, of the style.
